GORSE Teaching School Alliance’s track record of school to school support is exceptional. Led by National Leader of Education and Lead Ofsted inspector, Sir John Townsley, the alliance boasts a number of Ofsted inspectors, a National Leader of Governance and Local Leaders of Education. Together with other professionals working within the alliance, they have made a profound difference not only to the outcomes of young people, but to the Ofsted judgments awarded to partner schools and the professional development of colleagues.

Our renowned Transformational Packages offer intensive support to improve performance in English, Mathematics, Science and the other EBACC subjects. In addition the alliance enjoys a national reputation for its work in improving children’s behaviour; Positive Discipline was developed by Sir John Townsley and a team at The King’s School, Pontefract. As our testimonials will demonstrate, our impact is nothing short of outstanding.

Our School to School Support work can be as brief as a single visit or extend beyond a year. Fully personalised and tailored to meet specific need, we pride ourselves on leaving behind a sustainable legacy.

Examples of the impact of our work on School to School Support

Over the course of the last three years we have worked intensively with four secondary schools and the impact of our work has been commented upon explicitly by Ofsted and a range of other agencies.

The White Rose Academies Trust

The White Rose Academies Trust have announced a strategic Trust Development Agreement with the The Farnley Academy Teaching School.

This agreement will provide high level leadership, subject improvement and operational support to both the White Rose Academies Trust and the current Academies within the Trust; Leeds City Academy, Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy.

Andrew Whitaker, Executive Principal of the White Rose Academies Trust, stated: “All staff within the trust are focused on delivering an outstanding level of education to all students who attend our academies. Whilst we recognise the improvements taking place every day in our academies, we are ambitious to accelerate and embed further improvements and we are confident that the expertise of The GORSE Academies Trust will play a central part in helping our Trust to provide an outstanding world class education to all of our students.”

Sir John Townsley, Executive Principal of the GORSE Academies Trust, added: “All of us at The GORSE Academies Trust are particularly excited about the development of our partnership with the White Rose Academies Trust. We know that all profound and sustainable improvement emerges through partnerships which are of the highest quality. We know that the White Rose Academies Trust shares our determination to change the life chances of children who come to our schools from some of the most impoverished parts of the Leeds city region and we are confident that, under the new leadership of Andrew Whitaker, the trust will prosper in an environment which is characterised by the highest standards of integrity, sincerity and compassion. If we can seek to ensure that children in the White Rose Academies Trust do well in their examinations and go on to secure excellent jobs and places at top universities then our city will be a better place, and significantly so.

Bridlington School

Three transformational support packages were purchased by Bridlington School in 2013. These centred around leadership, behaviour and Mathematics. Support in Mathematics included the sharing of high quality and up to date planning and resources which transformed teaching and its impact on student outcomes. In addition to visiting The Farnley Academy to observe teaching professionals deliver outstanding lessons, the school was visited by one of our SLEs who provided feedback and guidance on the delivery of the Mathematics curriculum.
