What is an SLE?
Specialist Leaders of Education are experts in their own field. Areas of expertise could include a subject leadership, pastoral leadership, curriculum design, early years, behaviour or school business management. SLEs should also be able to demonstrate a successful track record of school improvement.
SLEs are committed to outreach and support professionals in other schools. Using excellent interpersonal skills, they sensitively and collaboratively work with others in order to transform practice and improve outcomes for young people. They understand what outstanding leadership practice looks like and help other leaders to achieve it in their own context.
Should a colleague from a school outside our Teaching School Alliance wish to be considered SLE status with us they should contact Scott Cosgrove in the first instance at [email protected].
Our SLEs
The SLEs within our Teaching School have a track record of significant impact. This has included transformational work at Benton Park School, Headlands School Bridlington and Todmorden High School, Calderdale. Some of that intervention work has taken place over a sustained period of time, on other occasions appropriate support has required only one visit from the SLE.
If you are looking to transform practice in your own school and wish to engage support from an SLE, please contact Scott Cosgrove in the first instance at [email protected]. Scott will work with you to broker the most appropriate package of support and ensure best value for money.
SLEs undertake a range of activities which include the delivery of workshops, support in the planning of whole school professional development, the carrying out of audits and one-to-one coaching. In addition those schools who have requested support are most welcome to visit and spend time with us as part of the school improvement process.
The cost of an SLE deployment for a day starts at £450.
